POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:                               Crossing Guard                  

REPORTS TO:                    Assistant Principal

HOURS:                            Part-Time Afternoon (3:00 to 3:45 p.m.) (Thursday 2:00 to 2:45 p.m.)

 

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT:

Provides assistance to students and staff by assisting children in crossing the street(s) assigned and reporting any concerns and/or problems observed to the Assistant Principal. Trains children to recognize and utilize natural and appropriate gaps in the traffic when attempting to cross a street, and in particular that street to which the guard is assigned. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of any information regarding students, personnel, and all job-related matters.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Possesses high school diploma or its equivalent

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful experience working with children
  • First Aid/CPR training

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

  • Trains children in safe, appropriate travel to and from school, and assist them in safe crossing of designated areas
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
  • Is a role model for children and a positive, productive representative of the school district
  • Demonstrate appropriate, positive and welcoming etiquette, with proper voice inflection
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Follows and honors state, county, federal and district policies and procedures
  • Administers first aid to students and contacts school and emergency assistance agencies in the cases of serious illness or injury
  • Create and maintain a clean, attractive, orderly, safe and efficient crossing environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to both take direction, and to exercise personal decision-making skills in fulfilling the primary assignment
  • Demonstrates responsibility, reliability, is a dependable worker
  • Observes and reports vehicle operators creating hazardous pedestrian conditions through violations of laws governing the operation of vehicles

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work involves standing most of the time and may involve running or walking for brief periods.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far visual acuity, depth perception providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, icy, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather will be experienced.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employed for prescribed term, salary, benefits and other working conditions to be determined by District Policy, Federal and State Law as well as appropriate funding from state, federal, and/or passage of levies.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of said duties will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
